To carpet or not to carpet? When putting the finishing touches on your home, the nitty gritty decisions become difficult, and one must weigh up the pros and cons of each choice.

For some, the warmth and comfort of carpet is a great way to make your house feel more inviting and cosy. Carpets do indeed offer more comfort with less expense, compared to hardwood floors or granite, as well as being great for sound absorption.

Older people prefer carpets as it is softer on your joints when walking around the house.

However, hardwood floors are said to have more designer and buyer appeal and are even a better investment in terms of resale value.

No matter how diligent you are with taking your shoes off and being strict with guests when they enter your home, carpet is hard not to stain and extremely difficult to keep 100% clean on a daily basis.

Carpets gather mites and dust everywhere, and most of the time you cant even see it…the carpet simply looks worn. Moreover, carpets can hold onto odours which can give off a funky smell to your whole house!

If you are person who likes change, then the carpet choice is not for you. Once you've got it, there’s no turning back with the colour you've chosen…you’re stuck with it!

Hardwood on the other hand, is easier to refinish the colour of the wood, these days a dark colour wood is most popular for a more modern style.

Hardwood floors are more expensive but are said to last longer than carpet. It is easier to clean, more fashionable and produces less allergens. As a matter of fact, buyers appreciate hardwood floors compared to carpets for allergy issues and matter of cleanliness.

Ultimately, the best way to go would be to have hardwood floors with rugs in areas you wish, to offer the best of both worlds. Rugs can be introduced for warmth in a room, and can easily be taken out and cleaned regularly, if needed.
