Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are not known for their subtlety, but their New York apartment that is currently up for sale suggests otherwise.

One is known for outrageous lyrics and name changes, while the other stars in a long-running reality TV show, and exhibits an incessant stream of extravagant mansions, events and photoshoots.

But this West Houston Street apartment is anything but excessive — and even presents an elegant restraint.

Perhaps one of the reasons behind this was that the apartment was designed by Italian architect Claudio Silvestrin, who is famed for his minimalism. It’s not exactly cheap though! It boasts a neutral colour palette, ceilings almost three metres high, 13 well-placed windows to maximise natural light and a rooftop garden offering 360-degree views of Manhattan.

The one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment has a $6.95 million (USD) price tag and is actually two flats on the building’s fourth floor that have been joined together and renovated as one.

This doesn’t exactly make the couple homeless. The pair own a mansion in Los Angeles rumoured to be worth $90 million (USD) and recently purchased a ranch in Wyoming.

They are, however, leaving behind an open plan dining and sitting room that reveals custom lighting and an impressive Ambiance sound system — perhaps to listen to Kanye’s music on repeat?

The kitchen is light and welcoming, featuring a stone island, pearwood cabinetry and French limestone flooring. The oven is a Miele and refrigerator is a Subzero, while the cooktop is from Gaggenau.

The whole apartment has lavish underfloor heating for comfort during New York’s cold winter and automated window shades by Savant feature in every room, including the minimalist but opulent bedroom.

Perhaps they’re moving because they ran out of room for their clothes? Either way, the next owners will have plenty of space for their belongings in this wardrobe that takes up most of the back wall in the bedroom.

A textured natural stone island is the key feature in the bathroom, which has similar relaxing qualities to the powder room. This features a single basin and a large mirror perfect for applying make-up… and whatever else Kim wanted to use it for.
