Clever kitchen storage

When you first moved in, the kitchen in your apartment seemed to have too much space. Now that you’ve accumulated more items, you need a solution. We’ve come up with some clever ways to maximise existing storage.

Organisers

Shelf stackers/risers are a convenient and cheap way of maximising storage space in your cupboards. You can stack large plates below, smaller plates above, and separate other kinds of crockery.

Get the best out of your corner space and make things easy to see and reach at the same time with this corner base cabinet carousel. Maximise the space under your sink by installing pull-out bins — which float so you can store things like bin liners beneath them.

Vertical storage

Use these adhesive hooks for a less permanent option, for the wall under a shelf or cabinet, and hang mugs by their handles. This will free up more cupboard space for you, and gives you a chance to show off your best coffee and tea cups.

You can also install a decorative splashback rail with hooks above your stove top burners, or next to them. They are don’t cost much and installation is easy. The added benefit? When cooking dinner, everything you need will be within arm’s reach.

DIY

There are many bloggers out there who publish posts listing the step-by-step process of DIY kitchen storage projects, but our favourite is this one from C.R.A.F.T. You can turn an old slatted door into clever storage by adding hooks, a magnetic strip and hanging baskets to it — genius!

Alternatively, pegboards are on-trend right now and a clever and efficient way of creating customisable storage. You can use pegs to hang pots and pans or create moveable shelves for stackable items.

Kitchen trolleys

Invest in one of these stylish yet practical rolling trolleys. They fit into the smallest of spaces and can be moved as needed. Place smaller drawer dividers in the top shelf and store your spices here, tea towels on the next, and alfoil, glad wrap and baking paper on the last. However you choose to do it, this an affordable option for providing extra storage in your kitchen.
