With an incredible scope and vision for a residential project, Arkadia from Defence Housing Australia (DHA) looks set to truly deliver on its promise to deliver more for Alexandria.

From this historic site, the bricks that built Sydney were once manufactured. Tapping into the local heritage, project architects DKO in association with Breathe Architecture, have created a residential building of terraces and apartments whose gloriously curved brickwork facade will likely set the tone for residential architecture in the area.

But it’s not all about the post-industrial look. The landscape design throughout the many green areas of this garden-filled architecture comes from innovators Oculus, and so offers an equally impressive natural character to these contemporary residences.

Connecting fluidly into the existing neighbourhood, Arkadia features public pathways threading throughout the development and emerging upon a village green. These natural meeting points provide Arkadia’s residents the space to relax and meet friends.

The open plan interiors feature a choice of two inviting neutral colour palettes. Contrasts have been employed to create a decidedly urban sophistication, with European Oak floorboards, dark window frames and terracotta brick balcony detailing.

Inside, these apartments reflect further the project’s astute attention to detail. Bench tops are Caesarstone, the latest appliances come courtesy of Smeg, including the smart induction cooktops. Style and function are perfectly aligned here, and entertaining family and friends is sure to be a regular occurrence.

Arkadia’s rooftop retreat is rich with details like a bbq and individual dining pods, abundant planting with mature trees, and of course plenty of space to relax and take in the expansive views of the city and Sydney Park.

Thriving communal ‘pocket park’ gardens also give you the chance to grow your own veggies for homegrown ingredients and believe it or not, this also includes plans for a beehive and chicken run for fresh honey and eggs.

There’s a real commitment to sustainability with a number of genuinely progressive initiatives in place. Things like the rooftop solar PV array to reduce energy usage through the building, thereby reducing strata fees. Rainwater collection ensures the communal gardens and veggie patches are lush without putting a strain on our precious water supplies. And there will be an incredible 160 bike spots in the underground car park to encourage residents to ditch the car and take a greener route to work.
