Erskineville in Sydney’s inner west may soon be the new affordable apartment hotspot, as the vibrant rejuvenation of the formerly industrial Ashmore Precinct hits its stride. Projects like ONE A are certainly raising the bar.

Transforming the past into the future of residential living, a project of this kind requires a large degree of smart thinking, and, in collaboration, developers Linear Group and Abacus Property set out to achieve just that.

Created by Multi-disciplinary practice, Kannfinch Design, along with Breakspear Architects, ONE A comprises a collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments aimed squarely at the owner-occupier.

What’s abundantly clear is that these apartments are exceptional in the way they are designed and appointed. Interior Design comes courtesy of BKH, whose eye for sophisticated textures ensures every material matches the contemporary modernist apartment designs seamlessly. We particularly love the combination of timber flooring and gloss cabinetry finishes.

Living spaces are clearly created to be functional, whilst maintaining a pleasing aesthetic. Open-plan and spacious, there’s plenty of opportunity to add your own touch to the soothing colour schemes. Open the large glazed doors and there’s the kind of balcony we don’t see too often – large enough for genuine outdoor living and entertaining.

Let’s talk kitchens, and there’s some top quality detailing on display here, with Corian bench tops and satin-chrome tapware, softened by the warmth of oak flooring and joinery.  We love the frosted cabinetry doors that add further texture and a modern touch. And our obsession with a party-friendly island bench is well and truly satisfied in some of these apartments, with space for casual breakfasts and cocktails (not at the same time…)

Surprises and individuality again comes to the fore in the bathrooms, designed to be both functional and inviting. We’re fans of the feature terrazzo stone detailing that adds natural colour and a real grounding to these calm spaces. Add all the storage space a busy bathroom needs, top this off with quality tapware and shower fixtures, and you have yourself one luxurious bathroom.

Every project within the Ashmore Estate has been awarded via competition, resulting in some of the most innovative and highest quality designs. Take the communal areas within ONE A, for example. Genuinely inviting and perfect for relaxing or socialising, this is a true extension of the apartments. Says Executive Architect, Trevor De Waal of Kannfinch Design, “The central landscaped courtyard is a major feature of the project, it’s a really good blend of active and contemplative space.”

To the location, and anyone keeping an eye on this leafy suburb will need no convincing of its appeal. From cool cafes, local bakeries, providers and grocers to the local bar and live entertainment, Erskineville has a lot to shout about.

As for transport, ONE A couldn’t be more convenient thanks to the nearby Erskineville village and train station a ten minute walk away (just two stops gets you to the CBD).

Expansive Sydney Park is a block away for a recreational fix. And with a host of bike paths, green linkages and parks built into City of Sydney’s master plan for the area, the future of this last pocket of residential opportunity is a positive one.

ONE A is already under construction and due for completion in 12 months’ time. With a more affordable price point than nearby developments, or similar projects in Rosebery, Newtown and Surry Hills, we suspect serious buyers may have to act quickly.
